Shady Oaks Nursery, LLC was established in 1982 as a mail order nursery. Today, it has evolved to a reliable wholesale perennial supplier to the horticulture industry across the US, Canada and Europe. All plants are grown in soil-less mix for easy transport across state and international lines. International orders are shipped primarily via FedEx and are brokered by FedEx for delivery to your door.
Wholesale production is performed in our modern laboratory by meristem culture, bringing you many of the newer varieties and the higher demand varieties that are many times hard to find. This process brings new plant introductions to the consumer much quicker after an evaluation process than conventional propagation methods.
Our greenhouse facilities with up-to-date environmental controls provide ideal conditions for producing the highest quality plants possible. Our dedicated and experienced staff is committed to providing high quality, uniform and true-to-name plants.
Hosta plants are generally grown in 1020 trays containing 96 plants per tray. Perennial liners are generally grown in 1020 trays containing 72 plants per tray.
The above photo of Hosta 'Earth Angel' is one of our new introductions. It was discovered by H. Hansen of Shady Oaks Nursery and is pending registration. From the beloved classic 'Blue Angel' comes 'Earth Angel'; a wonderfully variegated form. Large heart-shaped blue-green leaves have a wide creamy-white border. Pale lavender flowers top the clump in early summer. Destined to be a show stopper when used as a specimen in the shady landscape.
Asarum splendens is the stunning form of the evergreen Asian Ginger. Thick, arrow shaped leaves have silver marbling overlays. It has a running habit and makes a wonderful addition as a groundcover to the moist woodland garden. Hardy in Zones 6 to 9.
Hosta 'Risky Business' is another new introduction for 2003 pending registration by H. Hansen and T. Avent. This is the white centered form of Hosta 'Striptease'. It boasts the same incredible vigor and growth rate as its parent, but with a narrow white center. Mature leaves on established clumps have an interesting twist on the leaf tip. Attractive lavender flowers top the medium sized clump in August. Every garden needs some risky business!
