January 2002JANUARY 2002 In the last few months, we have had 4 firefighters decide it was time to hand in their airpacks and retire. We will miss these four dedicated men, who have given many years of service to our department. Arlen Ostermann was a member of the Good Thunder Fire Department for 28 years, and served 16 years of that as Chief. Dale Heins retires with 25 years of service, and was the Relief Association Treasurer for many years. Curt Hanson served as Chief Admininstrative Officer and retires after 21 years, and Jim Sinkbeil, who was the EMS Training Officer, retires with 20 years. We applaud all of these men and say goodbye with our heartfelt thanks! We'll miss you all. |
January 2000Elections for positions for the 2000-2001 year were held at the monthly meeting on January 4, 2000. Officers for the coming year are as follows:
The 52nd Annual Meeting and Oyster Feed will be held on February 1, 2000. The Annual Spouse's Dinner will be held at Jean Heins' on Tuesday February 1 at 6:30 pm. Please bring your own beverages, tablewear and a dish to pass. |
October 1999The Minnesota State Fire Chief's Conference was held from October 14-17 in St. Cloud. Chief Tom Froehlch and his wife Sara and former Chief Ostermann and his wife Karen attended the conference. All are invited to the Fire Station on Sunday, October 31, from 9 am to 1 pm for the Pancake Breakfast. Free will donations will be accepted. The proceeds will go toward equipment. |
August 1999We have several changes in the Department roster this month. After 8.5 years of service to the department, Rodney Halvorson has been granted a medical discharge. Rod will be missed. We also welcome two new firefighters, Tom Shoemaker and Pastor Rudy Maurer, to our ranks. Tom is a sergeant in the Minnesota National Guard and Pastor Rudy is the pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. We are very pleased to have both of them with us and look forward to working with them. On Saturday, August 14, we held the Annual Family Picnic at the fire station. Many thanks to Asst. Chief Dick Poehler and his wife Marian for making sure we all had plenty to eat! There were lots of games for the kids, and there were plenty of kids to enjoy it all. Chief Froehlich made a presentation to thank former Chief Ostermann for his dedication over his 16 year term as Chief. We'd also like to invite all of you to attend our annual Fireman's Dance on September 11, 1999 at the Station. The dance will be held from 8-12:30 and music will be provided by Premier Sound and Light. Tickets are available from any Good Thunder firefighter or at the door. The patch trading policy has been announced and is as follows:

February 1999After 16 great years as Fire Chief, Arlen Ostermann has decided to step down and be "one of the guys". We're glad Arlen has decided not to retire from the Department at this time and is only giving up his Chief's position. Thanks, Arlen, for all you have done for the Department over the years. We appreciate it! Taking over as chief is 13 year veteran of the GTFD and 2 year veteran of the St. Clair Fire Department Tom Froehlich. Chief Froehlich was officially appointed by the Good Thunder City Council on Monday, February 1, 1999. |
