GOALS and EXPERIENCE

GOALS

I strive to grow professionally, in teaching, service, research, and consulting. Using my experience and education in these areas, combined with management and teaching skills, I ultimately hope to help local and U.S. industries and students reach their full world-class potentials. We have an abundance of three major competitive assets which, if used to greatest advantage, will restore our manufacturing base: a creative educated workforce, natural resources, and large land areas. Logistics, Transportation and Distribution, must thus become as much a part of manufacturing and industrial engineering as manufacturing processes and workstation design. My education, experience, and interests strongly qualify me to contribute in any one or integration of all of these manufacturing, industrial and management areas.

I seek to strengthen the role of the industrial engineer and of U.S. manufacturing and business in our global economy. As Founding Director of the Institute of Industrial Engineers' (IIE) international Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (LT&D) Division, I have made progress toward realizing these goals by spearheading the successful addition and integration of logistics into the group (reflecting its growing scope and importance to industrial profitability and viability) and by authoring the IIE's first new definition and scope of logistics for industrial engineers. My service to the 1994-1996 planning committees for their respective IIE International Conferences, Co-chairing the logistics tracks, and my successful attainment of division status for the LT&D interest group support the growth of industrial and manufacturing engineering, and logistics and transportation management.
