The mission of the Lakota Public Library is to provide its patrons access to the ideas and information that are necessary to allow them to fully participate in the life of the community and in a democratic society.
What's New and Newsworthy at the Library: Please note: The library will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK: The library celebrated Children's Book Week at the Lakota Fall Festival. Children, parents and grandparents who stopped by the library display table were given a free children's book, stickers, and puzzle pages.
HOME BOOK DELIVERY: The library offers free book delivery to its senior citizens as a free service. Please call the library at 886-2312 if you would like to have someone bring books to your home.
SUMMER LIBRARY PROGRAM: PAWS, CLAWS, SCALES AND TALES A six week Summer Library Program will again be available, starting in late June of 2006. Elementary students meet in groups for an hour per week. This year's theme centers around pets. Children receive prizes for reaching their reading goals and have their names drawn for a chance to win a new bicycle. Refreshments are served at each program. If you are interested in volunteering to help, please contact the library. We also need sponsors to provide cash or prizes.
DVD'S ADDED TO COLLECTION: The library has added DVD's to its already popular video collection. Stop in to see the new titles! DVD's may be checked out for a period of one week. Details can be found on the "Library Services" page. Each DVD is sent home in a padded envelope for extra protection. Your care will help insure other patrons a chance to enjoy the same titles and allow us to add to our collection more quickly.
ANNUAL SALAD LUNCHEON FUNDRAISER: FALL INTO READING The Annual Salad Luncheon Fundraiser was held at the Lakota Eagle Center last September. Thank you to everyone who worked in the kitchen, donated money, or shared their special salads and bars. We had more food than we had expected, and it was enjoyed by all! The money raised will be used for materials and equipment, children's programs, and cataloging expenses. Thank you for supporting the Lakota Library!
HICKORY TECH INTERNET: The Lakota Library is an agent for Hickory Tech Internet. If you are interested in internet access, please sign up at the library. If you discontinue your DSL use, you may also drop off your modem at the library instead of mailing it to Hickory Tech.
