I would like to thank JimVS, FreidaVS, EvertV, Bill VO, JohnV and many others for emailing my ramblings sending pictures on to other Vermeers.

This is the part of the Vermeer family that stayed in Holland

What a hard decision to stay or go

Grandpa Vermeer was 56  and Grandma was 55  when they immigrated to the USA.

This year is the 100th anniversary of that occasion what has a century of change brought to everyone involved.

One thing was always certain at these reunions

we were going to have Hull ice cream.

Uncle Bill Lockhorst worked at the Hull creamery

and he told me he keeped the secret recipe for this very popular ice cream.

(if only I could have gotten it from him a kids dream come true).

They would keep it cold in a big brown  bag that was insulated.

There was always enough so we could have seconds

since we never had it the rest of the year.

I am sure there are other memories from when you were gowing up

this is just one of mine.
