Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota - Mankato Chapter
Build With Habitat
Tuesday 9:00-3:00 Thursday 9:00-3:00 and 4:00-8:00 The first and third Saturday
of every month 9:00-4:00
There are many ways to help Habitat end sub-standard housing. You can help with construction, work on a committee, call volunteers, help educate the community and much more. Information about volunteering is below.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Habitat. We need your help in accomplishing the goal of ending sub-standard housing. Building is a great way to improve your own skills while helping others. Whether individually volunteering or as group, let's face it, Habitat is just plain fun (as well as educational).
Individual Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are what really make our houses affordable. Volunteers build walls, hang drywall, shingle the roof, put up siding and so much more. There is no experience necessary, since our crew leaders are willing to teach new skills to anyone interested in learning. This is a fantastic way to learn new skills while helping other people and the community. There are volunteers on-site at various times during the week, as well as Saturdays.
Volunteering is now as easy as clicking your mouse (actually, you have to type a bit too, but it is easy none the less). You can sign up using our on-line form. Also download and print off the liability,
the Adult Waiver or the Youth Waiver. You may also call the office at 507-388-2081.
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is a great way for clubs, businesses, church groups and organizations to work together, build stronger friendships, and meet new community members. In addition to having work days available on Saturdays, we can schedule times for groups to come out when it is convenient for you.
Groups can get involved using the group form or by calling the office.
Volunteer Crew Leaders
For interested volunteers with previous construction experience, who would like to become further involved, we have opportunities to lead volunteers on sites. Crew Leaders are responsible for overseeing volunteer activities on the work site as well as helping improve the ability to discuss this further, please contact us at the office.
Committee Volunteer Opportunities
There is work to be done even if you are unable to pound nails. For example, volunteer opportunities exist with each of our
eight committees:
Building
Family Partner
Family Selection
Church Relations
Public Relations/Fund Raising
Aluminum Can Recycling
Volunteer
ReStore
Volunteer Opportunities
Special opportunities for students also exist. So many in fact, that there is a special page for it. Click on the previous link to go there.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
There are also opportunities available for people outside of construction or committees. Volunteers are utilized to help plan special events, provide food for workers, draft house plans, perform data entry, join our speakers bureau, or help coordinate and recruit volunteers. We are also trying to build up our Aluminum recycling program and volunteers are needed to help with that. We are flexible and would love to talk to you about your interests. Please give us a call at 388-2081.
